Safety representatives together with the rest of the members in the working environment committee are important roles in ensuring a safe working environment and maintain a strong safety culture. By having a well-organized working environment committee and a focus on safety on-board the accidents and near misses decrease and the crew’s moral increase.
Training in protection and environment issues is a special Norwegian requirement, but the Norwegian Maritime Authority does not require this type of training prior to joining a vessel.
